Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.

With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

I just want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all you farmers out there! Every since I've been following this channel (around the 10-20k subs, almost 2 years ago) I have learned some awesome stuff from you and other channels. Very grateful for the information you provided, the laughs and farm life drama, but also honestly looking to you all as an example. Man, I admit it with no pride to swallow, instead a pride to follow! Again, greatly appreciate you guys and all the great examples you have shown us! Stay safe out there fellers! ...and feller-ettes. (Wtfarmgirl) Also, this ain't blowing no wind in anyone's bin, just stating the facts here. 😉👍

An orthopedist told me that most back issues come about getting in and out of vehicles. Get in straight and get in front of your seat and then sit. Same with getting in and out of the truck. Stand on running board and sit then turn to face front. I used to have issues all the time and since his telling me this nothing. It works.

I get that back issue also, its the muscles just above the lower back that jam up and the vertebrates pinch a nerve that mess up the left leg and lower back all in one. went to a chiropractor and he fixed me 50%.then he gave me a foam roller to roll my back on the floor for home treatment. I used it dilligently and im 99% ok now and at my age it will never be 100 anyways. i use the roller everday and u can feel the popping and crackeling as u roll the vertebrates into smooth operation. its when things get sticky and muscles lock up all hell brakes loose. the roller has been a life saver for me.im a mechanic and work in in the semi bendt positions.

Cleaning the inside of the grain dryer seems like it needs a large suction machine of some sort. If a 1/4" cable were to be installed end to end inside the bay, a suction hose connected to a short pipe that clips to the cable and another short hose with a handle might make easy work of removing dust. Cable holds the device, lowering human carried weight. Just thinking out loud, it might take a bit of messing about to sort a good design. Seems like that one level could be less work and hazard if a large vacuum or dust collection system could be used instead of a shovel. Same with underneath the whole machine. Just thinking of less back stress.

Not sure if you're aware of it or not but there is an OSHA standard that requires an operator to wear a safety harness when in a man left bucket such as you were. You may blow that off is inconsequential but it only takes one time for that sucker to bounce and put you out over the rail and I have seen it happen. If not for your own maybe for your family's consideration.

This may sound dumb but I wonder if it would be possible to use a 4" or 6" hose with a dust collector/cyclone separator (similar to what wood worker's uses) to clean the inside of the dryer.

Don’t want to be bustin your chops Zack because I think you really do a great job, sharing what it’s like to be a farmer. I’m farm raised working in pharmaceutical industry now.....but please please get yourself some PPE, dust mask ( cheap starting point ) , I’ve watched older farmers die miserably because of farmers lung, you talked of knocking crud outta your hair....imagine what your lungs took in.....they’re not filters and Brock can’t make them shine again 🤔 Also maybe a fall arrest harness when in the boom lift, and crawling on the dryer...... I never ever want to watch the video where Isla and Mrs. millennial farmer are spoon feeding you in a chair......please take a 20second pause before every task, what am I doing and what can go wrong.....I’ve seen you do it when considering getting into a grain bin(can it collapse in) , and after your 20sec assessment, ask yourself, how do I make this safer for myself, so I can go home in the evening to my kids n wife. It’s a mind set that I hadn’t got until I started working in pharmaceutical, now I go home to the farm and am horrified by what I see happening, lack of awareness on safety, in Ireland, agriculture tops the list for work place fatalities every year. Check out the US statistics here: www.bls.gov/iif/oshwc/cfoi/cftb0326.htm Stay safe Zack!......your one of the good ones!

You're right. There is room for every type of farm. I raise holstein steers for freezer beef, 4h lambs, horse hay, and a little corn that I run with a 2 row new idea picker. The point is I make money at it. Not enough to make a complete living, but enough to come out ahead. I farm land five to ten acres at a time because there is a house on it. The bigger farmers don't want to fool around with it but it works out good for doing hay. Sometimes I have fits with my lower back. The only thing that has worked for me is a ride on my quiet horse at a good walk. No trotting. It will loosen right up after about a 20 minute ride.

High again. Just had an idea. As a viewer of your videos it is hard to get a feeling for the size of your farm, what field you are working in, and where the farm is relative to the fields. So why not have some posters made, showing the layout of your fields. Hang them up in the machine shed and use them in the start of your videos to show where you will be working today. Maybe you could ask a local school if the school kids could draw them and design magnetic stickers with pictures of crop and machinery. It could be an awesome tool for showing what goes on.
Kaj-Åge Henneberg

Thank you for a great year following your videos. Actually I think a lot of your viewers would like to hear a bit about how you plan for a coming season. There is a lot more to farming than driving tractors, so please share with us how farmers prepare for a new season in terms of crop planning etc.

Thank you for making these videos. Born and raised in San Francisco, I have NO idea how a farm operated. And they certainly don’t teach us in school. my neighbor has what i think is a new holland 1520. we both have a combined acre or two of tall grass to mow down each year. she doesnt have a brush hog so usually someone is hired to brush hog the grass on my property and hers. would tilling be better to do with her tractor or a brush hog and can anyone recommend sizes? i believe her tractor to be a max of 33hp but most likely less. just looking for the most effective and cost effective way to tackle the job.

Hi Zach, great channel, love the videos. I have great respect for farmers. I worked on a farm as a teenager for about 6 years and planted a Filbert orchard (aka Hazelnuts) a few years ago in Oregon. I heard some farmers are growing them in your state. It would be interesting to see how they are doing with them and the challenges they face with the extreme cold weather you have. If you ever travel out this way and would like to tour an orchard you can reach me at Benderbuilds/Facebook Thanks..
