#Harvest 2020 is in Full Swing!
The goal of the Grain Bin Safety campaign is to reduce the occurrence of grain bin accidents by raising awareness of the hazards and by raising funds to equip first responders with the tools and training needed to respond quickly when necessary in the event of a grain bin accident. The funds raised will be used to purchase Grain Bin Rescue kits and training for our first responders.
Nominate Your Local First Responders: Best point of contact at your department? What equipment does your department/responders need? Is there a specific brand of equipment your community uses as a combined effort with other local departments? Any other information you think we might find useful? Please send request to givingback@mnmillennialfarmer.com
Zach and Becky Johnson will assemble a panel of volunteers to review request a distribute donations accordingly.
Funds raised will be distributed to rural first responders to purchase grain bin rescue systems and training.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

I have a question for you Zack. How is it, that now I feel like I'm a part of your farm, I care about John Deere tractors running great and not causing trouble, I'm worried about your dad's knee even though I don't personally know your dad, and now I know how to check soybeans for being wet and I also know that you have to shut it off before it gets too wet at night so that it doesn't plug up the combine. How did I get to this point? LOL! No honestly I've truly enjoyed this whole thing, your farm how you farm the equipment involved in the farm everything. I truly enjoy the people you're interact with and your whole family, you make farming seem fun!

Funny, the last time I watched you clean out the dryer I thought 'I wonder if something like a big grain vac would make that job easier?" Suck it all up instead of shoveling to the ground and then shoveling it into the tractor.

I always disliked the air being mounted on the combine on the S550, but its handy to blow off the chaff. Just kick it on at idle works just like a high power backpack blower. Instead of a shaft to unhook its a large air hose.

For you training on Grain Elevators look at your Cooperative Extension. As a firefighter for over 38 years in a career and running on a Heavy Rescue and Truck Company I had this training and it was great and came in use a few times through out my career. Our city did not have any Grain Elevators however we had the training to assist our bordering community's that did. Enjoy your site.

I think its awesome that your dad is still helping you even though he is not 100% recovered from his knee replacement. In June 2016 my dad had double knee replacement only to get his right knee infected. They removed his knee in early September 2016 and placed an immobilizer on that leg. While I was combining beans I seen his truck pull up to the field edge then my mom called me. I assumed she had brought dinner. Turned out dad figured out he could adjust the angle of the immobilizer and was able to get in his truck he drove down to set and watch all while mom had no clue! This video brought back memories its hard to keep a good man down.

Check out this video from Giggs Farm on him getting ejected through the cab while roading the combine. Big take away, wear your seatbelt. I never did while moving fields and to hear why he didn’t we can all agree with. He is in a big machine going slow. But he hit a bump and the best I can figure is the header fell off and he ran it over. He bounced around the cab and then through the windshield. Jesus Christ saved his life that day. For no explainable reason the two wires that control the transmission got cut and stopped him from being run over. Talk about a close call and how that would effect your family if you weren’t there to be the backbone of it because of no seat belt. uzpost.info/vision/video/j5eqrdRhYHirj2A.html
