Men Vacuum The Same Way They... What an awesome invention. There will be no shame this Thanksgiving when my mother in law visits.
The goal of the Grain Bin Safety campaign is to reduce the occurrence of grain bin accidents by raising awareness of the hazards and by raising funds to equip first responders with the tools and training needed to respond quickly when necessary in the event of a grain bin accident. The funds raised will be used to purchase Grain Bin Rescue kits and training for our first responders.
Donate Today:
www.gofundme.com/f/grain-bin-safety
Nominate Your Local First Responders: Best point of contact at your department? What equipment does your department/responders need? Is there a specific brand of equipment your community uses as a combined effort with other local departments? Any other information you think we might find useful? Please email request to:
givingback@mnmillennialfarmer.com
Zach and Becky Johnson will assemble a panel of volunteers to review request a distribute donations accordingly.
Funds raised will be distributed to rural first responders to purchase grain bin rescue systems and training.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Zach having a vacuum to do the dryers and cleaning bines sounds like a great idea for your farm. All that stuff under the grain dryer makes fertilizer for your fields?

Zach you don't quiet a job you postpone until tomorrow. Farmers should always be cool when on camera. Your are an amazing farmer to teach other that farming is an art that helps feed and fuel the people. Keep up the awesome work you are filming.

I would highly recommend adding an aspirator fan drawing off the top of your dryer fill leg. I recall from previous videos that leg is also your receiving shipping leg so it would really get a lot of use each year. Ours draws off our dryer fill leg and since installing it we no longer need to wash our dryer in season and the amount of fines around the dryer has decreased by at least 100%. I'd be very concerned about fires with that much red dog in your lower plenum. I know it is probably cooling only but still. Our aspirator leads to an old forage wagon with a cyclone supported above it. 95% of what ends up there is red dog and even some small cob bits and small pieces of stalk.

someone some where is gonna eat a piece of corn a millennial farmer stepped on. or to fuel your car with. but we all know no one does that in california. also incase anyone was wondering. as of today corn price is $4.0675 a bushel. and he guesses about same with about 450 bushels. thats about $1,900 USD he just picked up. if you go back the price of today.

Kiss the Ground - must watch for farmers such as yourself. I've never commented on your farming practices as I've come to the conclusion that you are aware of the harm it does to the planet and are looking 'around' the mountain of inertia tied up in how heavily invest you are in equipment and 'tradition'. From some of your videos, I get the idea that you are looking into no til practices to try and better your stewardship of the land you farm, and for all of us, I hope you find the way.
George Goertzen
George Goertzen 2 oy oldin
@Millennial FarmerI only watched 'KISS THE Ground' yesterday, but I have been aware of the damage tilling does to the atmosphere for many years. I fail to see the 'agenda', but I'm Canadian, though from a farming background. I'm a grandmother now and really worry about the earth we are leaving to our children and their children... The Nasa maps of the CO2 entering into the atmosphere during the months of the heaviest tillage are...simply scary. But I also understand that you, in particular, with how wet your soils are and the length of the growing season you have to contend with - it's even shorter up here, forget corn entirely - and the heavy investment you have in maximizing the production of your chosen crops, how hard it is to change, let alone what to change to. But little differences can add up. Spreading tillage between fall and spring, tying minimize tillage and planting cover crops all go into reducing the impact farming on the amount of carbon in the atmosphere. Even planting more trees where you can't plow - it all adds up and you have a huge audience to influence....
Millennial Farmer
Millennial Farmer 2 oy oldin
It's an extremely complicated situation. Definitely not one that's easy to change. I've seen parts of Kiss the Ground and can say that it was definitely produced with an agenda, and without including many traditional farmers. The ones who were included are in very different situations than myself and most others. Gabe Brown farms different crops in completely different soil and has other markets to pull from. If you're interested in that sort of thing, check out a podcast I do with Minnesota Public Radio called "Field Work" where we talk about farming practices and conservation. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Weird MN weather this year. 3"+ snowfall 2 months early for record. Hi temps in 20's when avg is mid 50's. This past week, day temps near 80 with overnight lows 10F warmer than avg daytime high temps. :-P When I was a kid, neighborhood kids got together Thanksgiving morning when moms were getting the turkey meal ready and play football in the yard. Normally played in just 3/4 length football jersey top and jeans. Would be warm, sweaty and in need of a bath to get rid of all the caked mud on us. Ground didn't freeze until early December. Expected some kind of snow anytime after Thanksgiving. Thawed and gone by 2nd week of April. Never had snow on the ground for my April birthday. Crab apple tree would bloom within days of birthday. This past spring, snow on ground thru April, crab apple bloomed last week of May. MN weather been changing over last 60+ years. So these 70F days in Nov stick out and are very appreciated.
