The new John Deere X9 combine finally hits the field with Onyx running the grain cart. We had some more work to do around the grain bins, and we started up the dryer for the first time this year. Corn harvest 2020 IS HERE!
The goal of the Grain Bin Safety campaign is to reduce the occurrence of grain bin accidents by raising awareness of the hazards and by raising funds to equip first responders with the tools and training needed to respond quickly when necessary in the event of a grain bin accident. The funds raised will be used to purchase Grain Bin Rescue kits and training for our first responders.
Donate Today:
www.gofundme.com/f/grain-bin-safety
Nominate Your Local First Responders: Best point of contact at your department? What equipment does your department/responders need? Is there a specific brand of equipment your community uses as a combined effort with other local departments? Any other information you think we might find useful? Please send request to givingback@mnmillennialfarmer.com
Zach and Becky Johnson will assemble a panel of volunteers to review request a distribute donations accordingly.
Funds raised will be distributed to rural first responders to purchase grain bin rescue systems and training.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

I am more impressed with the kid. Only kids that grow up in this type of environment because I did as well have such a head start on life and being able to actually do something useful in life and not wasting it on a video game or on social media not knowing how to do anything useful in life

I don't know if this is redundant, but I love it when you include Auna and Didge (did I get names right?). They are great friends. Moreover, anyone who loves and appreciates good dogs is a good person in my book. It was also a treat to see Isla smiling. She will vaguely remember this trauma 20 years from now (although you will remember it for life - as if it happened yesterday - every detail). God bless y'all. And God Bless USA if we are still worthy of such a thing....

We rarely if ever picked 20% corn maybe 18 and then dried it down, but most years we were taking it out of the field at 13%
Michael Neuman
Michael Neuman 11 kun oldin
@Millennial Farmer Ya and probably never well just because of your climate. There are a few folks down here planting fall corn these days that are having to dry their corn. It is just now hitting roasting ear stage. I think back in the day we picked some corn in the 18% range and used a grain dryer. It was nothing like yours, it was an old style. The main reason it was dried back then was fear of getting rain from hurricanes or getting blown down, but that doesn't seem to happen anymore!! lol Varieties with shorter growing seasons have seemed to solve that issue for the most part. Good luck with the rest of the harvest I really miss those days.

Your operation reminds me of a job I had years ago at a feed mill. It was a state docks grain elevator back in the day that was converted to a animal feeds mill. Lot of catfish feed made there. We brought in raw materials by semi trucks and rail cars. Enjoy watching the show. Stay safe

Cuz I had to help local farmer by doing that, man it was dusty..lol but other than that good video and nice looking corn.

Hey Millennial how about this for an idea you put on a tree climbing harness that is attached to a 24 volt electric winch that you attach to the top or so far down rung on the inside ladder in the bin . Beside the winch cable down to the person is a control switch during a cave in the person uses switch to pull them up out of harm ? this might be something your money could develop ..

*I got exhausted watching your "frantic" multi-tasking to move corn, fiddle, jury rig a fix, trucking, cleanup, hoping "digitals" and electrics would work alright, and everything would start, cycle1, cycle2, cycle3, etc. Phew! ||| It is like when the cows need to be taken out of the woods from their daily forage. Hear the full udder mooing at distance up in the woods, jump on the bike, race down the hill, clime a 1/2 mile up the old 1600's military road through the woods, open the gating, walk the herd to the next gate, check the road for trucking coming from over the hill by ear, shoo them across the road to toward the milking barn, milk. Ahaaaa. Done. When the corn is ready, the milking must begin . . . NOW!*
