Visiting a Dairy Farm-What do Dairy Cows eat? Why do cows wear earrings? Why do farmers separate the calves from their mothers? Do Greg's cows fart? Did you know there are now half the amount of cows in the US compared to 60 years ago and we are producing 3x the amount of milk!! FACT CHECK: There is NO ANTIBIOTICS in the milk you drink! EVER! Your milk is tested for antibiotics at the farm, as its being loaded into the truck and at the processing plant!

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Hey all, I really enjoy your videos. And I est cheese and ce cream every day too! So delicious! I have a concern you might be able to help with. I’m so glad to hear your insistence upon quality milk from healthy cows, so please impress upon Horizon to stop putting carrageenan into their dairy products. It’s no longer natural, quality milk once they do that. Dairy products do not need to be thickened. I used to buy HORIZON heavy whipping cream at Costco, but it is too thick. And every brand I see adds it. I know carrageenan has been tested on animals, and that its effect on humans is inconclusive, but I am always concerned and disappointed when I see additives in my food. I suspect this is done to increase company profit, but it’s done at the expense of the consumer’s health. Carrageenan is something that has bothered me for a very long time. And now more and more reports reveal the FDA should reconsider their approval of it. I realize carrageenan comes from seaweed. That sounds natural, but I don’t want it in my milk. And by processing the carrageenan and making it into an additive to thicken dairy products it becomes unsafe. Please encourage Horizon to stop using carrageenan and just leave dairy products natural. It’s bad enough that the FDA requires they be pasteurized and homogenized. Raw milk is too expensive. Wishing you the best. .

it's actually super sad how so many ppl not only do not understand the many issues with modern farming but they also look at these modern mono crop or meat and dairy farms and think it's progress, efficient or good . we need ppl to watch, read and visit farms run by ppl like joel salatin at polyface farms and realize we are fucking up agriculturally and i'm not even referring to things most ppl would think i am like gmo. i am talking about the need for every local to have and produce it's own DIVERSE food supply which can sustain them locally, i am talking about crop diversity instead of so much land being used for soy, corn and wheat, i am talking about the excessive need for antibiotics in meat farming and the fact these antibiotics are forced on farmers by necessity at this point because animal housing conditions are so poor and cramped that without the use f antibiotics all the animals would be riddled with disease, i am talking about the high barrier to entry and regulatory hurdles a more sustainable farmer like joel salatin would face starting today. we have actually exchanged knowledge and skill in agriculture for the ability to invest in millions of dollars of equipment with a goal of quantity and profit not sustainability. making matters worse the government regulatory bodies are forcing this shit on farmers who actually are forgoing this style of farming for a moire closed loop natural system. an example is why it is illegal to sell unpastuerized products or why the government won't approve your pork or beef if you don't pump antibiotics into your animals. the current paradigm of regulation and incentive is operating under the assumption you are operating one of these disgusting unsanitary modern farms. we have lost so much old school knowledge and our health is paying the price

Carbon footprint...all designed to tax the air we breathe and control us. The entire CO2 "concern" is a fallacy. We are at 400 ppm CO2. Below 150 ppm CO2, all plants die. All plants die, we die. During the most prolific CO2 period in history (the Cambrian era) the CO2 levels were 20x higher than current. The U.S. and Western Europe could become negative CO2 producers overnight and there would be no appreciable impact to current CO2 levels, as China and India far outstrip the rest of the world in CO2 emissions (and each is building thousands of new coal-fired plants in the coming years). Don't fall for the cow farting crap (pun intended). Want some real science regarding "climate change"? Visit or find Tony Heller on UZpost.

In Australia, milking cows has been changed over the years of technology. When it comes to milking, the cows come in or do know when they are ready for milking and will come to the milking building to line up. The cows come into a big round ring onto an automated flat floor as one by one goes in. The computer system bring in the water, to clean their teats, put the four pumps machine into their teats. Not one human work as all on this. The ring can be the size from 20 cows in a ring to up to 60 or 70 cows in a ring depending on the size of the ring. Like in a clockwise. Once the cows finish milking which it is a full 360 degree of the flat floor, they get out of the milking building and go out in the paddock. But there is a catch. Sometimes there is a robot that got a round brush which is good for cows when they want a rub or a massage. If a cow wants to go back into the milking again, the computer will pick up his ID ( tagged by his ear) and won't let him/her in. Even now they got a computerised robot dog (got wheels) to bring the cows in the milking yard. Once again no humans work at all. Think about that for technology.

I don't know how it is in the US , but we have a lot of resistence from animal activists and also politics to the mega cowstables (500 plus cows )in the Netherlands , the last decade especially. it realy bothers me that those people have no idea how good these cows are taken care off , especially in these huge stables compared to the older operations with less room , light , air and ability to monitor their health. Keep up the good work!

That is a valid question and one that's gathered a lot of attention on the national stage. Some of our employees are citizens of the US and some are here on work Visa's. It can be challenging at times to find new employees but every part of the economy is feeling a labor shortage with where the unemployment rate is at. Thanks for watching!

We own a 2000 head dairy and 80 head beef farm in Belgium. Reason for that many cows? They bring in just enough money to get by. With milk bringing in 0.39 cents on the Euro here and being sold in stores for about 1 - 1,10 per Kg, you can see the problem. His farm looks very similar in operation, though we have a Dairy Master carrousel, for 70 cows per turn. Milking takes about 3 hours. Each cow gives about 25 Kg a day, with two milk runs a day. Things are a bit different in The Netherlands and Belgium, then they are in the US, but the basics are the same. Deliver awesome, cool milk and dairy to you, the consumer. Farm on Sirs!

those pov camera shots of you guys hand feeding the cows brought back a memory of when I got bit by a cow when i was 8 while feeding it. They said keep your hand flat and I did but some of the feed go in between my fingers instead all of it in my palm and she (setsy was the cows name) couldn't just like lick it up so she took a bite and my fingers went with it. It pulled a little bit of skin off and had a couple bruises but not breaks or anything and I kept all my fingers i just kinda had to yank it back.

I worked on a dairy farm when I was a teenager. I can't say I loved it, because we had to work all the time. Plus during the winter it was really cold.
